The Hydrangea is a unique plant. Apparently, the flower colour is determined by the soil pH, which affects the availability of aluminium in the soil.  Acid soils (more aluminium) produce blue flowers and with alkaline soil the flowers are pink.

I regretted starting this painting partway through – so much detail and so many small flowers to work on. But on completion - pure satisfaction!
