The original painting is by Winslow Homer (1836-1910), one of America's most celebrated painters. I like his work as his paintings are simplicity itself, yet he is able to demonstrate richness and invention in his mastery of watercolour.  I was rather pleased with this attempt – the sky in particular was rather tricky.
