There was a book sale one day at Cleveland Clinic and I picked up an interesting account of gourd craft. Initially, due to the beautiful vase on the cover, I thought the book was about pottery - my first love!

Gourds have many uses - musical instruments, water jugs, etc, and have been fashioned into all sorts of decorative and useful objects.

The hard-shelled gourds are important in the daily lives of native peoples. For water vessels, they are still preferred over earthenware jars because they are lighter and they cool water by evaporation.
