In Bali, one can't get away from religion - it's absolutely everywhere! Although the majority of Balinese are Hindus, they also believe in spirits. Offerings are put out every morning to pay homage to the good spirits as well as to placate bad ones.

At our hotel, a "prayer" woman would prepare offerings and replace them daily at all the shrines and altars scattered throughout the hotel. It seemed to be a full-time job!
